Connect Custodio to your assistant

Custodio Legal

Video tutorials in Spanish

These walkthroughs show the complete flow in the Spanish interface.

Custodio publishes a remote MCP server at https://custodio.legal/mcp. MCP lets assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT discover Custodio tools and use them with your authorization. You do not copy a password or create an API key: the client opens Custodio’s secure sign-in and receives a revocable credential. The web version of this chapter includes the public Claude and ChatGPT tutorials at the end, with Spanish captions and a direct YouTube link.

Before you start

  • Your practice needs Custodio Pro, Max, or Teams. Free and Solo do not include MCP.
  • Use a client that supports OAuth-authenticated remote MCP servers. Access depends on your client plan and workspace role.
  • In Custodio, open My account → How you sign in → Connect an assistant and select Copy MCP address. You do not need to type it or append /sse, a key, or query parameters.
  • Connect only from an account and device you control. Start with a demo practice that contains no sensitive client data.

Compatibility

Client Availability published by the provider Custodio status on September 2, 2026
Claude web and Claude Desktop Remote MCP connectors on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise Claude web certified on Max: discovery, OAuth, consent, per-call approval, and a safe read completed with 7 demo matters (#1153). Claude Desktop was not tested in this session
ChatGPT web Full MCP on Business and Enterprise/Edu; Pro has limited read-connector access in developer mode ChatGPT web certified on Pro in Work mode: custom app, OAuth, approval, and a safe read completed with the same 7 demo matters (#1153)
Another remote MCP client Must support Streamable HTTP, OAuth with PKCE, dynamic registration, and credential refresh Compatible when those capabilities are present; validate with a demo account first

The table separates what each provider publishes from a real authenticated test. Certification covers only the listed surfaces and plans; it does not implicitly extend to other clients or modes.

Connect with Claude

  1. In Custodio, open My account → How you sign in → Connect an assistant and select Copy MCP address.
  2. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors. On Team or Enterprise, an owner must first enable organization connectors.
  3. Select Add custom connector.
  4. Enter Custodio Legal and paste the address you copied.
  5. Select Add, then Connect. Claude opens Custodio for sign-in.
  6. Read the permissions, choose the correct practice, and select Authorize.
  7. In a chat, open Search and tools, enable Custodio, and enable only the tools needed for that conversation.

Connect with ChatGPT

The location differs between personal and managed workspaces. The official OpenAI documentation keeps current plan and role details.

  1. In Custodio, open My account → How you sign in → Connect an assistant and select Copy MCP address.
  2. In ChatGPT web, open Settings → Apps → Advanced settings and enable Developer mode. On Business or Enterprise/Edu, a workspace admin may first need to enable it.
  3. Create a custom app named Custodio Legal.
  4. Paste the address you copied as the remote MCP server. Do not paste a Custodio password or API key.
  5. Connect the app. In Custodio, sign in, review permissions, choose a practice, and select Authorize.
  6. Open a new chat and select Custodio from the tools menu. In a managed workspace, test the draft app before deciding whether to publish it to anyone else.

Choose the practice and permissions

The Custodio screen is the source of truth. An authorization belongs to one person, one practice, and one set of scopes. Switching practices on the web does not move that credential.

Available permissions include reading matters and intelligence, searching retained knowledge, preparing drafts, and keeping the connection active. Connection renewal grants no additional access.

Custodio exposes no execution tools over MCP. An assistant may read and may prepare specific actions, but cannot approve them. Open the returned link, review the frozen payload in Custodio, and confirm it yourself. Nothing happens without that human signature.

First safe test

Start with a read and verify the practice:

Use Custodio to list my open matters. State which practice you queried and how many you found. Do not prepare or modify anything.

Then test a narrow question:

Find the matter by filing number and summarize only its status and latest proceeding. Cite the Custodio source you used.

To test the approval boundary:

Prepare a follow-up task for this matter, but do not execute it. Return the Custodio review link.

Never ask the assistant to bypass permissions, approve on your behalf, or copy information between practices.

Disconnect or revoke

You may disconnect Custodio in the client. To revoke at the source, open My account → How you sign in → Authorized applications, find the client, and select Revoke access. Revocation immediately invalidates that grant’s tokens; it does not delete matters or sign you out of the web app.

Troubleshooting

What you see What to check
The client rejects the URL Copy the address again from My account → How you sign in → Connect an assistant and confirm the client supports remote MCP over Streamable HTTP
There is no option to add an app or connector Check your plan, role, and workspace policy; a managed workspace may require an owner or admin
Custodio says the plan does not include MCP The practice is on Free or Solo; change to Pro, Max, or Teams
The wrong practice appears Cancel and authorize again with the correct practice; a credential never switches practices by itself
The assistant cannot find a tool Its scope was not granted, the tool is disabled in the client, or the plan lacks the capability
The connection expired Reconnect. Custodio supports renewal, but a revoked or expired credential requires authorization again
It prepared something but nothing happened This is the safety boundary: open the review link and confirm inside Custodio
You suspect an account or device was exposed Revoke the app in Custodio and in the client, then change sign-in credentials when appropriate
